Muga

Tradition ist das große Geheimnis der Bodegas Muga.
Kaum ein anderes Weingut aus Spanien besitzt international einen solch exzellenten Ruf wie Muga. Die Bodegas wurden 1932 von Isaac Muga und Aurora Caño in der Rioja gegründet. Noch heute befindet sich Muga in Familienbesitz.
Die Besichtigung dieses legendären Hauses ist ein besonderes Erlebnis und vermittelt einen beeindruckenden Hauch von Ruhe, Ruhm und Gelassenheit, den nur einige wenige Spitzenbetriebe auf der Welt ausstrahlen. Man leistet sich bei Muga seit Jahrzehnten eine eigene Küferei, in welcher sämtliche Behälter für die Weinbereitung eigenhändig hergestellt werden. Alle Weine erhalten ausreichend Zeit, um in Ruhe und abgeschiedener Dunkelheit zu reifen. Das Weingut selbst befi ndet sich direkt am altehrwürdigen Bahnhof in Haro, dem überlieferten Zentrum und der Keimzelle des Weinbaus in der Rioja. Als eines der wenigen Rioja-Häuser bietet Muga einen vorzüglichen Weißwein mit einem Hauch Holzeinsatz.
Wichtigste Weine des Hauses sind die Rioja Reserva und die Seleccion Especial.
Stilbildend und eine Legende ist die Gran Reserva Prado Enea - ein Wein wie aus einer anderen Zeit, der am ehesten mit großen, gereiften Burgundern verglichen werden kann.
Bodegas Muga produziert konservativ-klassische Weine von Weltruf und ist anerkannter Repräsentant spanischer Weinkultur.

Rioja Reserva DO 2019 ein echter Kultwein Robert Parker: 94 Punkte "The 2019 Reserva comes from a dry and warm year with low yields and concentrated wines. The grapes from the Haro zone, the four from Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano fermented destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and 80% of the volume matured in French oak and the rest in Centro European and American oak, 20% of them new, for 22 months, during which time the wine was racked every eight to nine months. This is serious and young but balanced, nuanced and complex. They are shortening the time in oak, as they feel they have better and younger barrels and think the wines need less time in oak and more time in bottle. This is very Muga, very Rioja and very good. They produced an impressive 960,000 bottles and 18,000 magnums of this. There is only one master blend that is bottled at different times. James Suckling: 94 Punkte "This is a structured and linear Muga Reserva with a creamy and fine-tannined backbone and graphite, cherry, plum and black-truffle character. Rioja Gran Reserva DO Prado Enea 2015 Robert Parker: 97 Punkte:   "The most classical of their wines, the 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta (Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche), but the Garnacha is from different plots in the zone of Tudelilla at high altitude. These grapes are always picked last, but the wine has a similar alcohol level as the rest, around 14.5% in a warm year like 2019. The modus operandi is similar to other of the top cuvées—harvested into 200-kilogram boxes, destemming, optical sorting and fermentation in small oak casks with indigenous yeasts. The élevage in this case is extended to 36 months, and the barrels are only 10% new. This is, year in, year out, my favorite wine from Muga, and in this powerful and ripe year, these late-harvesting vines ripened thoroughly and delivered a full array of aromas and flavors so that the wine has plenty of depth and complexity. It has a very classical profile, with incipient tertiary notes, perfumed, floral and rich, textured and beautifully balanced. They compare this 2015 with 2009 and 2005 in terms of style but with freshness in the style of 2001 and 2010. It's enjoyable but should also develop for a long time in bottle. One of the finest Prado Enea vintages. 108,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2018. There's no 2012 or 2013 of this. There will be a 2016 and 2019, but no 2017 or 2018. 2020 is still a question mark, they have not yet decided it.” 69,95 EUR ( inkl. 19 % MwSt. zzgl. Rioja Gran Reserva DO Prado Enea 2016 Robert Parker: 97+ Punkte: "The expressive, complex and nuanced 2016 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a textbook traditional Rioja in the making. 2016 was a very elegant year, with aging potential, volume and very good acidity and freshness. It's full-bodied but fine-boned, has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.25 grams per liter acidity. It has terrific balance, with all the components in the right proportion to age superbly in bottle. They have also been working on the selection of wood used. This wine matured in French and American oak barrels for three years, and the oak is super integrated. 127,808 bottles produced. It was an exceptional year with volume and quality.” James Suckling: 97 Punkte "Complex aromas of dark fruit with violets, walnuts and chocolate. Classy. It's full-bodied with plush yet fine velvety tannins, and a precise and pointed finish. Juicy and savory. Tight finish. It's very long.
